Active Citizens for Europe

 
The Call for Proposal covering the implementation of the programme actions Active Citizens for Europe, Active civil society in Europe and Active European Remembrance was published in the framework of the Europe for Citizens Programme. The Europe for Citizens Programme’s objectives are:

- To give citizens the opportunity to interact and participate in constructing an ever closer Europe, democratic and world-oriented, united in and enriched through its cultural diversity
- To develop a sense of European identity, based on common values, history and culture, 
- To foster a sense of ownership of the European Union among its citizens and
- To enhance tolerance and mutual understanding between European citizens respecting and promoting cultural and linguistic diversity, while contributing to intercultural dialogue.


The priorities of this Europe for Citizens Programme’s call for proposals are given to projects related to the following themes:

- The future of the European Union and its basic values
- Active European Citizenship: civic participation and democracy in Europe
- Inter-cultural dialogue
- People’s wellbeing in Europe: employment, social cohesion and sustainable development
- Impact of EU policies in societies
 
The Target Groups for this Europe for Citizens Programme’s call for proposal are citizens of the EU and the European Union Institutions.

Eligible participants within this Europe for Citizens Programme’s call for proposal are consortia of legal entities established in one of the Europe for Citizens Member States (EU Member States, Croatia, Albania, former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia). The consortium might include:

- public bodies
- non-profit organisations with a legal status (legal personality)

The eligible actions that can be funded within this Europe for Citizens Programme’s call for proposal are Project Grants aimed at bridging the gap between citizens and the European Union. A project must explore original and innovative methodologies capable of encouraging citizens’ participation and stimulate the dialogue between European citizens and the institutions of the European Union. A project must involve at least five participating countries, of which at least one is an EU Member State. A project must involve at least 200 participants.

The total budget available for this Europe for Citizens Programme’s call for proposal amounts to EUR 1 308 000. EU Contribution cannot constitute more than 60% of overall eligible project cost.

The deadline for submitting proposals in the framework of the current Europe for Citizens Programme’s Call for Proposals is 1 June 2012.
