Innovative Practices in Vocational Education and Training

The study visit aimed to provide participants with the opportunity to get to know and compare with own experience, the strategies and practices for the management of vocational education and training initiatives in Italy.

The specific objectives of the “Innovative Practices in Vocational Education and Training” Mobility Initiative was to give participants the opportunity to:
• Acquire a better understanding of the Italian and Tuscan vocational education and training system
• Acquire knowledge about the current policies and strategies for the organisation and management of the vocational education and training system
• Acquire information about how vocational education and training systems are organised and managed in Italy and in Tuscany in particular
• Experience the delivery of lectures in the field of interest of the participants in both vocational education schools and training institutions
• Acquire information of the existing methods and experiences for the organisation and management of vocational education and training initiatives
• Share best practices with vocational education and training institutions both at public and private level
• Develop new contacts and explore opportunities of cooperation with public and private institutions operating in the educational and vocational Training system in Tuscany

    The Institute was founded in 1999 as part of the downsizing of the school network operated by the Region and is built by joining two existing schools working in the Florence area: the Vocational Institute for Industry and Craftsmanship "Benvenuto Cellini" and the Vocational Institute "Lucrezia Tornabuoni, Caterina De \'Medici. "
    The school is divided in the following departments:
    - Design and fashion history - Art History - Tutorials and modeling package.
    - Electrical engineering and electronics.
    - Substances-historical-legal language.
    - Mechanics and Technology.
    - Mathematics - Physics - Science.
    - Psychology of Communication.
    - technique of advertising graphics.
    The age of the students of the Technical and Vocational Institute is 14 to 19.

  • Cipat

    Universities and Schools

    Cipat is a Regional Consortium of Public Secondary Schools representing over 40 public schools. The participants met the director of the consortium to learn about their experience in assisting the schools in management issues. A meeting with the staff was also organized in order to learn about their experience and also investigate on possible cooperation.

    Universities and Schools

    The “Francesco Datini” Vocational Training Public Secondary School has been following the social and economic changes of the Italian ciety in order to catch the new needs of the national and regional productive reality. For this reason, the school tries to introduce the best innovations (technologies and multimedia tools) within the education activities. The school offers five different courses finalised to specific professional figures: Advertising Graphics Technician, Business Management Assistant, Tour Operator, Social Services Assistant, Hotel Assistant Manager.

  • Museum of Textile

    Public Authorities

    Opened in 1975 in Tullio Buzzi Technical Institute, Prato Textile Museum commenced its cultural mission by providing a collection of items testifying the history of local textile production since the beginning of the 12th century for use in the training of new technicians in the textile design sector.
    Prato Textile Museum is now a flourishing centre for the promotion of the local industrial district, a district which comprises around 8,000 companies and employs over 40,000 people.
    Since May 2003 Prato Textile Museum has been definitively housed in the converted Campolmi textile mill, a symbol of the local textile manufacturing industry located in the centre of the city of Prato.
