In-Service teachers training courses: Videogames for Education and Media Education

Pixel organises two different in-service teachers training on the use of new media for educational purposes:

1) Edutainment, Videogames for Education
2) Media Education, Use of ICT and New Media for teaching and learning

The courses are held in English at Pixel site, in Florence (Italy).


1) Edutainment, Videogames for Education
The main objective of the course is to train teachers on the implementation of e-learning, multimedia and videogame technology in a teaching and learning context.
The specific objectives of the course are:
- To analyse the issues related to the application of multimedia solutions and videogames to education
- To carry out a comparision between traditional teaching and e-learning, examining the practical aspects of e-learning and the benefit of applying e-learning and videogames solutions to education.
- To analyse the practical aspects of the application and development of multimedia applications for educational purposes.
- To address the issue of videogames as learning environments as well as the practical aspects of developing videogames for educational purposes
- To develop the theory of programming for educational purposes, starting from an introduction to information technologies languages to the topic of programming videogames

The dates of the next editions of the European Project Planning course are:
- Edition 1: from 22 to 27 October 2012
- Edition 2: from 25 to 30 November 2013

The course is included in the European Lifelong Learning Programme Grundtvig / Comenius Database (http://ec.europa.eu/education/trainingdatabase/index.cfm?fuseaction=DisplayCourse&cid=33981), therefore those who wish to participate in can obtain a training grant to cover both the course fee and accommodation and subsistence costs. The course code on the database is IT-2013-861-001.

2) Media Education, Use of ICT and New Media for teaching and learning
The Course aims to train teachers on the use of New Media for the development of literacy skills (reading and writing) and for the building up of the capacity of the students and the learners to analyse and interpret information in order to become aware New Media user.
The teachers who will attend the training course will acquire the skills to:
- Design Media based educational contents
- Evaluate and assess media skills
- Teach reading skills through the exploitation of New Media
- Teach writing skills through the exploitation of New Media
- Ehance critical thinking skills of the pupils through the exploitation of New Media

- Edition 2: from 21 to 26 October 2013
