Call for Proposal for a European Project on the Prevention of Elder Abuse


In the framework of the Progress Programme, the European Commission has published the Call for Proposals VP/2010/015 for a European project on the prevention of Elder Abuse.

The objective of the Progress Call for Proposals VP/2010/015 for a European project on the prevention of Elder Abuse is to support an initiative that will examine how existing recommendations and charters at national and European level on the rights of older people in need of long-term care and assistance and prevention can be implemented and how this process can be supported.
The purpose of the Call for Proposals VP/2010/015 for a European project on the prevention of Elder Abuse to be awarded will be to finance an initiative designed to organize in various Member States a reflection exercise, bringing together representatives from all areas responsible for care in old age (public authorities, long term care insurance funds, care and prevention providers, bodies responsible for the supervision of care institutions and prevention services etc.) as well as organizations representing older people and the users of long-term care services like some person with disabilities, that should discuss how recommendations, prevention and charters at European and national level can be implemented thanks to the Progress Programme and identify existing obstacles in this regard.

The Call for Proposals VP/2010/015 for a European project on the prevention of Elder Abuse will finance a European project designed to draw lessons from this reflection exercise and to produce instruments for supporting the implementation of existing recommendations and charters at national and European level in Member States (e.g. implementation guidelines, checklists, prevention mechanism and prevention systems) and to prepare a final conference (agenda, speakers) where the European project results could be presented and discussed.

The total available budget for Call for Proposals VP/2010/015 for a European project on the prevention of Elder Abuse within the Progress Programme is 450.000 Euro (€).The maximum EU financial contribution of the Progress Programme for the selected European project will not exceed 80% of the total eligible costs for the selected project.

The deadline for submitting proposals within the Progress Programme a European project on the prevention of elder abuse is 11/08/2010.

The maximum duration of the European Project on the prevention of elder abuse to be submitted within the current call for proposals within the Progress programme is 24 months.
