Call for Proposals 2013

The “Call for proposals 2013 – Key Activity 1” has been published, in the framework of the European Programme Jean Monnet, by the European Commission.

Within the Lifelong Learning Programme, the first key activity of the Jean Monnet Programme brings together the two instruments formerly known as the Jean Monnet Action and the Support for Study and Research Centres . The actions supported under this key activity aim to stimulate excellence in teaching, research, reflection and debate in European integration studies in higher education institutions within and outside the European Union.

European Integration studies involve the study of the origins and evolution of the European Communities and the European Union in all its aspects. European integration studies cover the analysis of both the internal and external dimension of European integration, including the European Union's role in the dialogue between peoples and cultures. Comparative studies concerning national practices are not regarded as European integration studies.

The specific objectives of the current  call for proposals of the European Programme Jean Monnet are:

- to stimulate teaching, research and reflection activities in the field of European  integration studies

- to support the existence of an appropriate range of institutions and associations  focusing on issues relating to European integration and on education and training in a European perspective.

The operational objectives of the “Call of proposals 2013 – Key Activity 1” are:

-  to stimulate excellence in teaching,  research and reflection in European integration studies in higher education institutions within and outside the EU

- to enhance knowledge and awareness among specialists academics and among European citizens generally of issues relating to European integration

- to support key European institutions dealing with issues relating to European integration

- to support the existence of high-quality European associations and institutions active in the fields of education and  training.

Eligible participants within this call for proposal of the Jean Monnet Programme  are:

-  Higher education institutions within and outside the EU as recognized within their own countries

-  Associations of professors and researchers concerned with the study of the European integration process within and outside the EU

-  European Associations active at European level in education and training

The actions that can be funded within the “Jean Monnet Programme  - Key activity 1” can include:

- Support for teaching, research and reflection on European  integration at the level of higher education institutions world-wide (Jean  Monnet Action).

The unilateral projects, which are funded in the framework of the current call for proposals, may include:

- Jean Monnet Chairs, centres of excellence and teaching modules

- Associations of professors, other teachers in higher education, and researchers specializing in European integration

- Support for researchers deepening their research at a host university in another country (not available)

- Information and research activities relating to the EU with the aim of promoting discussion, reflection and knowledge about the process of  European integration and Information and research activities for Learning EU at  School.

In the framework of the current call for proposals of the Jean Monnet Programme, priority will be given to projects involving:

-  academic activities which exploit multi-disciplinary resources;

-  an openness to civil society;

-  researchers preparing a doctorate or having less than 5 years of post-doctoral experience;

-  creating joint transnational activities and structural links with academic institutions in other countries aiming at the production of  research results that cannot be achieved through research activities within a national framework  (this priority  only applies to Information and Research Activities and Multilateral Research Groups);

-  showing an innovative character and implementing the activities in countries and regions not yet covered by the programme;

-  involving professors and university teachers not having yet benefited from the

programme;

-  national or transnational associations of  professors and researchers specializing in European integration studies;

-  developing contents and pedagogical methods and tools contributing to European integration teaching for primary and secondary school education, and initial vocational education and training;

-  developing transnational European projects on the writing of the history of the European integration process from a common European perspective.

The deadline for submitting proposals in the framework of the current Call for Proposals is 15 February 2013.
