Call for Tenders on Active European Citizenship

European Citizenship

The Call for Tenders on the Study on Active European Citizenship was published by the Directorate-General for Education, Audiovisual and Culture and identified as EACEA/2010/02.

The objective of the Call for Tenders on the Study on Active European Citizenship is to deepen understanding of what active European citizenship is, the relationship between active European citizenship at local, regional, national and European levels and between individual and collective action and how it can best be fostered at the different levels.

The study should also enable the European Commission to identify the contribution active European citizenship makes to achieving the European Union's strategic objectives in the economic and social fields (Europe 2020). This enhanced knowledge and understanding would enable the development of an evidence-based policy leading to European Union’s action for active European citizenship targeted more closely on needs.
The study on Active European Citizenship should raise policy makers' awareness of the benefits of fostering active European citizenship at national and European level, where possible identifying tangible, measurable effects as well as 'softer' intangible benefits.

The results of the study are intended primarily for use by European policy makers but should also serve as a resource for decision makers and other interested parties at national, regional and local level.

The specific objectives of the Call for Tenders on the Study on Active European Citizenship is to provide an up to date picture of the state of play of active European citizenship at the various levels across Europe, including a contextual part aimed at promoting a common understanding through clarification of concepts and terminology of active citizenship at local, regional, national and European levels as well as a critical review and synthesis of key findings of the main existing research.
